RAF Star First Welshwoman To Sign Professional Rugby Contract

RAF Star First Welshwoman To Sign Professional Rugby Contract
Royal Air Force rugby star Sian Williams has become the first female Welsh player to sign a professional contract.

A senior aircraftwoman, Williams has been in the RAF for seven and a half years. In that time she’s been a stalwart for her service side and for the UK Armed Forces set up, playing in the back row.

She also becomes the Royal Air Force's first full-time female athlete, with the RAF having released her for at least two years to be able to train full-time with Wales.

Williams plays her club rugby at Worcester Ladies and has been living and working in Oxford but she will now be posted RAF St Athan, near Cardiff, meaning she’ll be near the Wales Centre of Excellence on a daily basis.

Wales Women face Scotland this Sunday in the Six Nations – they lost their first match to Ireland 21-3.
