Actual Santa Helps Forces Charity Launch Christmas Boxes

We’re now well and truly into December and as a result everything's starting to look a bit festive - but the public are being urged not to forget about the Armed Forces.

With that in mind, the uk4u Thanks! 2015 appeal has now officially been launched on HMS Belfast in London.

It aims to get Christmas boxes full of presents (affectionately known as the 'Square Stocking') to serving soldiers.

The charity started sending Christmas boxes out to troops in 2005, but the idea actually came about in 1914, when troops were sent a small gift to the front line during the First World War.

Meanwhile, personnel from RAF Halton have been spreading Christmas cheer to veterans in East London.

The RAF station has put together festive boxes for the charity Veterans Aid, which offers support to ex-service personnel.

The parcels were delivered to the charity's Belvedere House hostel, which is home to 55 former servicemen.
