The Best Of Us: The Athletes At The Warrior Games

The Warrior Games are underway in the United States with a team from the UK among the 250 athletes at West Point Military Academy in New York.

As always, proceedings got underway with an opening ceremony.

Former Daily Show host and comedian Jon Stewart was the master of ceremonies, telling the athletes that they are the best of us and praising them for the example they set.

Lieutenant General Robert L Casten Jr, the Superintendent of West Point, also spoke. He said:
"These games showcase the resilient spirit of these warrior athletes, and symbolise to all the ill and injured service members and veterans that individuals can recover from serious injury or illness and they can lead fulfilling, productive, and inspiring lives."
The UK armed forces have 39 athletes competing this year, and Major Brian Seggie had the honour of carrying the torch.

With the cauldron lit, the games were declared open.
