British Forces Cyprus Better Prepared For Migrants

The Sovereign Base Areas or SBA’s in Cyprus have been testing how well they can respond to another migrant landing - such as the one that took place inside RAF Akrotiri last October.

The exercise is one of a series, each designed to evaluate the SBA's response to a range of emergency scenarios.

Chief Superintendent Nigel Avron from Western Bases Commander, SBA Police said:
"... now we are better placed to deal with something if it were to take place in the future. It's not a route into Europe, it's not a route into Britain.

Individuals land here, we recognise that but it's not an easy route, it's not an escape route."
