Churchill's Underground "Barn" To Be Opened To The Public
A disused London Underground station where Winston Churchill took refuge during the Blitz is to be opened to the public.

Down Street station in Mayfair was a tube station for 25 years until its closure in 1932.

It then acted as a bomb-proof bunker for the then Prime Minister during the Second World War.

Churchill referred to the temporary underground Government offices at Down Street as "The Barn"

The site is one of several former Underground stations which will be opened to public tours.

It is situated between Dover Street, now called Green Park, and Hyde Park Corner stations on the Piccadilly Line.
