German Soldier Speaks Out Against Refugee Backlash
A German servicewoman of Moroccan origin has spoken out following reports of sexual assaults by migrants of Arab and North African descent.
The revelations shocked the public, with calls to reduce the number of people entering the country.
But Nariman Reinke says that as a German, Muslim, soldier it was important to take a stand against the backlash.
"My religion does not understand when women are raped - no matter by whom. The assumption that I could, is an abyss of human stupidity."
"I am proud to be German. I was especially proud when I saw the welcoming of refugees in Munich. This was a celebration of our Constitution and the humanistic achievements on which it is based.
"Many refugees remain in Germany and have children. Let us together ensure that they too have a German home in which they can contribute and to which they can be proud."
Nariman has been speaking to our reporter Amy Matthews.
