Lincoln Veteran To Be Reunited With Missing Medals
A set of missing medals belonging to a Second World War veteran have been found after a week-long search.
93-year-old Donald Nicholson, from Houghton-le-Spring, lost them after travelling to a Bomber Command memorial event in Lincoln last Friday.
Despite having offered a reward of £350, a social media campaign and the help of hundreds of volunteers, some armed with metal detectors, the medals whereabouts remained a mystery.
That is until now. A joyous Mr Nicholson called Forces TV declaring he was "happy as Larry" after a dog walker found them in a gutter.
Paul Slee was walking his pet through Houghton-le-Spring early in the morning last Friday when he spotted them at the side of the road. Picking them up he took them to the local police station. It's only now however that the connection has been made.
An emotional Mr Nicholson told Forces TV he wanted to thank everyone "who helped play a very important part in finding the medals."
