"NATO's High Readiness Force Now Prepared For Action"

NATO's highest readiness force is now ready for action, according to one of its commanding generals.

The Very High Readiness Joint Task Force has just completed its biggest exercise yet.

It's been testing how quickly it can deploy more than 2,000 personnel - and get them working together.

But as Forces TV's James Hirst reports, some in NATO fear it's still not enough to deter Russian aggression (see above).

It comes after we learned that Britain will be asked by the alliance to contribute more military resources to Eastern Europe, to deter Russia.

NATO is expected to approve "pre-positioning" of troops and equipment in the Baltic states at a summit meeting in July.

The alliance's Deputy Secretary-General has told Forces TV that Britain will be "counted on".
