Pro-Nuclear Maria Eagle Is New Shadow Defence Secretary
Maria Eagle MP will be the new Shadow Defence Secretary as Jeremy Corbyn finalises his Shadow Cabinet.
According to the website TheyWorkForYou.com Ms Eagle has voted in favour of replacing Trident with a new nuclear weapons system in both 2007 and 2015 - a stance that will put her at odds with Labour's new leader.
Since coming to Parliament in 1997 she consistently voted in favour of the Iraq War, and has more often than not voted for British Armed Forces involvement in overseas conflicts.
Maria Eagle has also been a strong backer of the Military Covenant. Her predecessor Vernon Coaker has been moved to the Northern Ireland brief.
Hilary Benn stays as Shadow Foreign Secretary, a job he’s done since the election.
