Russia Slams American Build-Up In Europe

Russia has criticised an American plan to rotate around 4,000 more soldiers into Eastern Europe from the beginning of 2017.

US fighter aircraft are also being positioned in Iceland and in the Netherlands.

America is calling it the 'European Assurance Initiative' and says it's specifically due to what it calls "an aggressive Russia".

The US Army currently has two Brigades based in Europe – a Stryker and an Airborne Brigade.

Now an armoured formation will boost American firepower on the continent by 50 per cent.

By the end of next year, the US Army will always have three fully-equipped Army Brigades in the region.

At any one time there’ll be a Brigade in Eastern Europe with troops rotating in and out every nine months.

It comes in the wake of Russia’s annexation of Crimea and its suspected involvement in the Ukraine crisis.
