Thunderbirds Are Go!

One US Airforce pilot at RAF Lakenheath will soon be doing some very different training.

Lieutenant Colonel Jason Heard is going to be the new commander of the US display team, known as the Thunderbirds.

Flying F-16s, they are the US Airforce equivalent of the RAF's Red Arrows.

They travel all over America doing displays, with manoeuvres performed whilst travelling around 500mph, using a total of eight different formations.

Today will be one of the last few flights Lt Col Heard will make from Lakenheath before heading to the states to join the Thunderbirds.
