Dozens of military veterans and reservists win seats in the General Election

Thirty-five MPs are heading to Westminster with military backgrounds after winning seats in the General Election.
This is down on the 2019 election, which saw 50 MPs with an Armed Forces background.
Labour now has 13 MPs who are veterans or reservists.
These include Al Carns, a former colonel in the Royal Marines, who took Birmingham Selly Oak.
The Conservatives have returned 17 MPs with an Armed Forces background, while the Liberal Democrats have five and the Democratic Unionist Party has one.
Among those losing their seats were Defence Secretary Grant Shapps and Veterans Minister Johnny Mercer.
Jonny Ball, the host of the Veterans in Politics podcast, says that means 5% of those sitting in Parliament are now veterans or reservists, while the national average is just under 4%.
