Voting Under Way In EU Referendum

Voting Underway In EU Referendum
Voting is under way on whether the UK should remain a member of the European Union or leave it.

Polling stations opened at 07:00 and will close at 22:00 with 46,499,537 people entitled to take part, according to the electoral commission.

The ballot paper asks voters: "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?"

The side that gets more than half the votes is considered to have won.

It is the third nationwide referendum in UK history following a four month battle for votes from the Leave and Remain campaigns.

Once the ballot boxes have been sealed they will be sent to the count venues for the 382 local counting areas representing the 380 local government areas in England, Scotland and Wales and one each for Northern Ireland and Gibraltar.

The electoral Commission estimates the final result will be around breakfast time.
