Army Challenge Cup final: 4 Regiment RLC edge 1 Mercians in five-goal thriller

A new winner of the Army FA Major Units Challenge Cup Final has been crowned after a five-goal thriller in Aldershot.

In its 121st year, 4 Regiment RLC edged out 1 Mercians 3 goals to 2 at the Aldershot Military Stadium to lift the trophy.

Twice the Mercians came back to level the scores but ultimately they could not find an answer to 4 Regt's Private Terrence Cuffy, who completed his hat-trick with three minutes to give them the trophy.

Private Terrence Cuffy was quick to acknowledge his team after the cup triumph, crediting his goals to the grafting and "quality" of his team.

"It was hard work today. And obviously, all the boys grafted today, so they helped me to make me get the hat-trick today", the centre forward said.

"I'm happy that I scored and then we won the title."

To reach the final, Mercians defeated 2018 winners 1 Yorkshire Regiment 3-2, while 4 Regt got to the final after a 4-3 triumph versus the 2020 finalists 3 RSME.
