Royal Marine Commando George Crotty has been named onto Great Britain's 26-strong squad for the World Boxing Cup: GB Open in Sheffield as he continues his quest to make Team GB's Olympic team this summer.

Marine Crotty, who competes at light-heavyweight, and the rest of the team will take on more than 100 boxers from 16 different countries.

The event in Sheffield is expected to have a bearing on selection for Team GB's boxers for the upcoming Olympic qualifier in Milan in March, where Olympic spots for Paris 2024 are up for grabs.

The event is part of the World Boxing Cup series, a new addition to the elite international boxing calendar developed by World Boxing, a new international federation established to ensure boxing remains at the heart of the Olympic movement.

Mne Crotty enters the Olympic year following a successful 2023 campaign, winning light-heavyweight gold medals at the GeeBee boxing tournament in Finland and the Leszek Boxing Tournament in Poland.

The World Boxing Cup: GB Open runs from 17-21 January at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
