Royal Navy men's rugby team prepared for pressure of being Inter Service champions

Watch: Are the Royal Navy ready to kick off the 2024 Inter Service championship against the RAF?

The Royal Navy are preparing to kick off their defence of the Inter Service rugby union title against the RAF on Saturday – live on the Forces News YouTube channel.

Coverage of the men's match in Plymouth begins at 12:45 BST and pits the reigning champions against a determined Air Force squad.

But are the Navy ready for the challenge of being targeted as champions?

"Obviously, winning last year – we know that the Army and the RAF are going to be coming for us," said Royal Navy player, Leading Aircraft Engineering Technician Chris Mills.

"I think there's always self-induced pressure that we put on ourselves."

One man who could play a key part in deciding the destination of this year's title is Marine Kane Teear-Bourge.

The winger has represented the Navy, as well as Wales and Great Britain, in the sevens form of the game and has scored eleven tries for the Welsh team.

Will his quick thinking provide the champions with an attacking outlet?

He said: "I try and get my hands on the ball as much as I can. Hopefully, I'll get a few tries. That would be nice."
