Army dominate RAF in Inter Services second round

Watch: The Army women's team dominate the RAF to win the second round of the Inter Services.

The Army women's rugby union team have beaten the Royal Air Force in the second round of the Inter Services, with a commanding 36-8 win at Kingsholm Stadium.

Two tries by Courtney Pursglove, and tries by Rae Metters, Sarah Batley and India King contributed to the Army's dominant win over the light blues.

The RAF only managed one try, by Welsh international Carys Williams-Morris, in the opening first half, as the light blues appeared to struggle against a strong Army team.

Things looked to go the RAF's way in the beginning after they were awarded a full penalty following a shaky start by the Army, with Sarah Graham converting the penalty to put the light blues on the scoreboard.

The RAF looked to have a handle of the ball and it didn't take long for Welsh international Carys Williams-Morris to score the first try of the game, to give the RAF a 0-8 lead.

A slow start for the Army and the RAF try was perhaps a wake-up call, as Courtney Pursglove answered the call to get the Army on the scoreboard with her first try of the game.

The Army began to take control of the game and soon enough, Rae Metters delivered a second try for the Army.

Pursglove was on hand to convert the try to put the Army into the lead at 12-8.

The RAF knew they had to deliver the same magic they had at the start of the first half, but a dropped ball opened the door for Pursglove to pick it up and dash across the field to the try line, to put the Army up 19-8.

As half time approached, the Army looked to be in complete control of the game as Sarah Batley doubled down to score another converted try for the Army, putting their advantage up 26-8 before half time.

The second half began with the Army being awarded a penalty, which Pursglove converted successfully to bring the score up to 29-8.

The RAF began to show signs of a fightback, with Williams-Morris making a big drive up to the try line, but was tackled before her efforts could materialise.

With the RAF missing Amy Cokayne, who was switched before the second half, the RAF made more substitutions in the hope of turning their game around.

As the clock began ticking down in the remaining 10 minutes, a late try by the Army's India King put the reds in an untouchable position, as a converted try helped them to a commanding 36-8.

The win sets them up well for their clash with the Navy at Twickenham on 13 May.
