Drones: How are they being used in Ukraine?

Ukrainian forces are using about 1,000 drones as part of their resistance against Russia.

Small surveillance drones, such as Switchblades and Pumas, can help locate targets by using thermal imagery.

"The Ukrainians are making a lot of use of small consumer drones... for scouting and observation,"  drone technology journalist David Hambling said.

The expert explained that, particularly in cold conditions, Russian tanks need to leave the engine on, making it possible for drones with thermal imaging technology to locate them.

Russia is also using drones as part of its military mission, and it is alleged its troops may have used them to deploy chemical weapons.
