Duke of Edinburgh visits Operation Interflex training grounds
The Duke of Edinburgh has visited Ukrainian soldiers who are training in the UK during Operation Interflex.
During an official visit to one of the trining grounds, Prince Edward, dressed in his Royal Air Force uniform, watched troops engaging in movement drills and casualty lessons, under the supervision of British instructors.
The training is for new volunteer recruits who have joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine with little to no previous military experience.
The purpose of Interflex is to teach volunteers the skills required to survive and be effective during frontline combat.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that a counter-offensive against Russia has begun.
The Ukrainian armed forces are aiming to take back Russian-held territory in the south and east of the country.
The counter-offensive started with some initial success, says Ukraine, as three villages were recaptured.
