Former British Army officer Stephen Barclay has been promoted to Brexit Secretary.

The ex-Second Lieutenant served in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers on a Short Service Limited Commission before studying at university.

He previously held a ministerial role in the Department for Health.

Mr Barclay's appointment came after Michael Gove reportedly turned down the post after saying he would only take it if he could renegotiate the EU withdrawal agreement.
