The History of Salisbury Plain

Salisbury Plain is one of the UK’s Biggest Military Training areas. Over the next few years it’s set to become busier than ever as thousands more soldiers and their families move in from Germany as part of the Army’s 2020 restructuring plans.

Training will increase, but what secrets does the Plain hold?

The MoD has been using the land for training for more than a century, its historic legacy can still be seen today, but it’s also home to the largest area of chalk land in North West Europe, and holds a number sites of great archaeological significance.
