Watch: The Falklands war as it happened

The Falklands conflict was a short undeclared war between Argentina and Britain over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands, brought about by Argentina's invasion of the Falkland Islands and Britain's fight to get them back.

After the Argentinian flag was raised at a whaling station in South Georgia on 19 March, British intelligence warned an Argentine invasion fleet could be converging on the Falkland Islands.

On 2 April, Argentina invaded, with the UK sending a large task force to the Falkland Islands, led by HMS Invincible.

The ensuing conflict lasted 74 days and cost more than 900 lives.
