Bringing Life-Saving Methods Home From Afghanistan

Nine civilian lives have been saved by an idea brought back from the war in Afghanistan by a reservist.
 
The project, known as 'Blood on Board', enabled the Great North Air Ambulance Service team to carry blood for the very first time.
 
Patients and staff have now been celebrating its success along with the woman who came up with idea a year ago
 
Dr Rachel Hawes drew from her experience working with MERT - the Medical Emergency Response Team in Afghanistan.
