British Soldiers Train With Allies In Texas
Five different nations' militaries are currently working round-the-clock and side-by-side on an exercise together in the US.
British forces are amongst them, with a goal of working towards better interoperability.
It's all part of the US Army's annual war fighting exercise, with 250 soldiers from Britain's 1 Armoured Infantry Brigade in attendance.
For their commander, Brigadier Zac Stenning, there are four key areas for them to focus on:
"Can British and US soldiers speak to each other?... Can we see each other [on a common operating picture]? Can we integrate our effects, particularly fire - so our artillery, can... shoot in support of each other? And finally, do we understand the battlespace - can we share intelligence? If we can get those four right, then we're achieving inter-operability."
Brigadier Stenning also says that exercise is about practising use of military technology:
"We're really here to test how human being interact, how procedures work, but also really to test common technology that makes us much more integrated and interoperable".
The exercise, taking place in El Paso, also involves Australian, Canadian and Danish forces and will run until the end of the week.
