Chinese Hoping To Attract Recruits With 'Gangsta Rap' Video

The People's Liberation Army has released a 'gangsta rap' style music video aimed at attracting new recruits.

The rap/rock fusion song, translated as Battle Declaration, underscores the slickly-produced advert.

The unorthodox video shows rockets being fired, the military rescuing a 'damsel in distress' and a simulation of a man's neck being broken.

Lyrics in the recruitment song include:
"There could be a war at any time. Are you ready for that?" "Are you afraid? No! Are you afraid? No! Just need the order to kill kill kill!"
The video, seemingly inspired by modern military video games, also shows an unfortunate man being picked off by a sniper.

The official Chinese state newspaper, The People's Daily, reports:

"The PLA is striving to recruit more educated young people. An increasing number of media reports say some young people spare no efforts to avoid military service."

The Chinese military has been steadily growing in recent years.

Neighbouring states including Japan and Vietnam have criticised the country's military build-up, claiming it's used to intimidate other nations amidst tensions over disputed territories in the South China Sea.
