RFA Argus Medics Perform Special Blood Donation Procedure at Sea

Medics on board RFA Argus, the British ship deployed in the operation to tackle the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, have managed to perform a specialised blood donation procedure at sea for the first time.

The process of 'apheresis' involves the separation of blood, meaning different components of blood can then be used on board the ship or sent inland to help treat patients with the virus.

It also allows sailors to give their own blood whilst at sea.
