Shooting It Up On Salisbury Plain

More than 200 soldiers from one of the Army’s biggest divisions have taken part in an advanced operational shooting event on Salisbury Plain.

Units were competing not only to be ‘top shot’ but also to represent their cap badge later this year at the prestigious tri-service defence shooting competition.

Among the competitors were members of Aldershot’s The Rifles, living up to their 'Swift and Bold' motto with their unique slide technique on the obstacle course in Bulford.

The physical aspects of the course are tough, involving negotiating a six foot wall, and then running to the shoot point - both requiring high levels of fitness.

Overseas operations have helped develop the way soldiers train, and this competition is no different, with every element of marksmanship put to the test.

The best of the best have been put forward for the competition from units from across the UK and Germany.

It's hugely competitive for all involved.
