A documentary film created by combat veterans fighting to expose the dog meat trade in South Korea has its world premiere today.

The award-nominated film Dog War, which follows a group of dog-loving former soldiers who investigate the sinister trade, premieres at Raindance Film Festival.

The film was created by Andrew Abrahams, Justin Melland and Aaron Mathes.

Veterans created the documentary with the aim of provoking questions about cultural differences and social change.

Director and producer Andrew Abrahams said: "I can't think of a better place to premiere Dog War than Raindance Film Festival, with its fiercely independent ethos of film that takes risks and offers unique ways of framing and viewing our world.

"My films often focus on hidden stories of suffering, places where boundaries or assumptions collide, and where new life can spring forth."

The project has been nominated for the Spirit of Raindance Award due to its effective storytelling.

During the making of the film, veterans used their military skills to infiltrate hidden farms and markets to rescue dogs from the infamous meat trade.

The film's wide range of interviewees include activists, politicians, dog meat farmers and vendors.
