Tanker Olympics: International tank crews put skills to the test in gruelling challenge

Watch: International tank crews put skills to the test.

Tank crews from five nations have gathered in Germany for the International Tank Challenge, an annual competition designed to sharpen tactical skills and strengthen military partnerships.

Teams from the United States, Denmark, Italy, Slovenia, and Switzerland are competing at the 7th Army Training Command's Grafenwoehr Training Area.

Over seven days, crews will take on 10 graded events, testing their ability to operate, navigate, and fire their tanks under pressure.

Beyond technical drills, soldiers must also prove themselves in a series of physical challenges known as the Tanker Olympics.

These events push participants to their limits, reinforcing their endurance and teamwork, testing themselves with everything from running with kegs to pushing massive tyres through a field.

The event spans seven days and features 10 graded events, with crews being assessed on everything from gunnery and manoeuvring to tactical problem-solving under pressure.

Originally called the Strong Europe Tank Challenge, the event provides a platform for Nato and partner nations to exchange tactics, techniques, and procedures.

While the competition is fierce, the focus remains on strengthening alliances and improving operational effectiveness.

With the competition now underway, crews will be aiming to demonstrate not just firepower, but also precision, strategy, and cohesion – key elements in modern armoured warfare.
