100 Years Of Women At War
It’s 100 years since women were enrolled into the British Army for the first time, and the centenary has been celebrated at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
The Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps was formed on 7th July 1917, with the creation of the Women’s Royal Naval Service and the Women’s Royal Air Force later that year.

The Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry was the first British regiment to offer frontline close combat roles to women in July 2016.

Their service has been remembered and honoured at a drumhead ceremony and reception, attended by veterans and politicians.
