Two American service members have been killed in Afghanistan.

The NATO-led Resolute Support mission said in a statement they were "killed in action".

It brings the number of US troops killed in Afghanistan to at least 14 in 2019.

It comes as talks between the US and the Taliban are set to resume in Qatar.

The Taliban said recently it is close to concluding a historic peace agreement with the United States, that would bring almost 18 years of conflict to an end.

Negotiations between the Taliban and an Afghan delegation would then follow.

About 14,000 US troops are stationed in Afghanistan as part of the US-led NATO mission to train, assist and advise Afghan forces and to carry out counter-terrorism operations.
