Army Belatedly Celebrate Burns Night In Style

Troops from 4 SCOTS have belatedly celebrated Burns Night, after being away on exercises last week.

The highlanders celebrated the birth of the infamous Scottish poet, just a little later than everyone else through a selection of performances.

Among the celebrations were readings of Robert Burns poetry and performances by pipers.

The ‘immortal memory’ performances, which were not allowed to be read were played out by corporals selected during a ‘Burns Factor’-style contest the night before, in which the finest actors were selected.

Craig Gibson, who performed part of the poem, said:

"It's taken me a year to learn it, and for future guys coming up through the corporal's mess it will take them a long time to learn it as well.

"But, I am pretty sure they will get there as well and they will get round that and round the wording as well, because some of the wording is very very difficult as well."

It is only the second time the corporal's mess have held a traditional Burns Night.
