An investigation is underway after a soldier was seen wearing earphones whilst standing on duty at Horse Guards Parade in London.

The Army confirmed that it is looking into the picture of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment Trooper, which appears to show him using the device whilst holding a sword and speaking with an armed police officer.

An Army spokesperson said:

"We are currently investigating images of a soldier on duty at Horse Guards today wearing an earpiece.

"If a member of the Armed Forces is found to have fallen below the high standards expected, appropriate action will be taken."

The Life Guard was spotted at around 7.30am yesterday morning whilst on sentry duty in full uniform.

An onlooker told the MailOnline

"It was kind of unusual sight really. He's a Life Guard and they don't normally listen to iPods on duty, do they?

"He's got 18th-century armour on and a 2017 headset. It's all a bit odd."
