Army Team Detonates Grenade Found Near Play Park

A British Army bomb disposal team has destroyed a Second World War hand grenade found near a playing field.

Royal Logistics Corps personnel and police were called on Thursday after the discovery in the village of Bainsford, Falkirk.

According to the Falkirk Herald, a 'massive explosion' occurred when the device was destroyed. It quoted a workman from a nearby housing development as saying:

"The Royal Logistics Corps bomb disposal told me it was a hand grenade and they would only be 10 minutes. Then two minutes later I heard the bang. They set it off in the bushes."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:

"Police in Falkirk attended at a wooded area near to Cobblebrae Crescent after a Second World War grenade was discovered by a member of the public."

"The EOD [Explosive Ordnance team] were also in attendance and rendered the device safe."

According to reports on social media the grenade had been discovered by a local fisherman when he was digging up worms.
