A woman's body has been found in a wooded area belonging to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Police were called to the wooded area behind St Michael's Churchyard in Camberley, Surrey, at 11:15am on Monday.

The vicar of St Michael's Church, Bruce Nicole, told Forces News that the body was found "in land owned by the Royal Military Academy".

Revd Nicole said that he believed that body had been found in between two security fences, in an area accessible to the public.

In a statement, Surrey Police said:

"Enquiries remain ongoing following the discovery of a woman’s body in Camberley yesterday morning (25 June).

"We were called around 11.15am following the discovery of a body in a wooded area behind St Michael’s Churchyard.

"The area, which is owned by the Ministry of Defence but is not within the grounds of the Sandhurst Military Academy, is sometimes used by rough sleepers. The woman’s body was discovered near a tent."

The death is still being treated as unexplained at this time. A post-mortem is due to take place tomorrow.

Detective Sergeant Nicky Gardner, who is investigating the incident, said:

“We are still trying to establish the circumstances of the death and are keeping an open mind at this stage.

“The body was found near a blue tent which we believe was put up at least six months ago. We would like to hear from anyone who has any more information about the tent, or any other information which could assist our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is urged to call 101, quoting incident reference number P18148783.

The Ministry of Defence referred Forces News to Surrey Police for comment.
