From Caber Tossing To Welly Wanging: The Battle Of Salamanca Remembered

3 RIFLES have been celebrating Salamanca Day today.

The battle of Salamanca saw one of the greatest victories over the French forces during the peninsular war, as English forces defeated forty thousand Frenchmen in just forty minutes.

The battle, which involved all rifle regiments, has become a day for those regiments to celebrate their achievements.

The day often starts with sports but this year had a fresh twist as an English battalion tried their hand at Highland games.

From caber tossing to 'welly wanging' - the regiment found themselves learning completely new techniques to tackle the sports.

This year, the fun wasn’t just for the troops as families turned up to take part too.
