Campaign Launched To Save WW2 Stretcher Fences

Metal stretchers which carried the injured during the Blitz, have been re-used to make fences in London.

These “stretcher fences” can be found on estates in the south and east of the capital.

They’re at risk of being demolished - some already have been - because they’re now corroding.

A campaign’s been launched to save a unique piece of military history.

Hundreds of thousands were made, and after the war, they were recycled as fencing.

The fences are in danger of being scrapped - some already have been - and now there are moves to preserve them.
