Coalition Airstrikes Attack Islamic State As Iraqis Continue Mosul Fight
Momentum is with the Iraqi forces as they battle the Islamic State group in and around the city of Mosul, according to the mission's spokesman.
Colonel John Dorrian, spokesman for Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve, said the Iraqis are holding firm, despite IS fighters remaining active in the area.
He said:
"They have fired indiscriminately into civilian areas; used human shields; and they continue to destroy a lot of the structures they occupy in the type of scorched-earth attacks that we've seen in other areas that they've held."
The US-led air coalition against the Islamic State group have released latest video footage, showing an alleged vehicle-borne improvised explosive device used by the militants being destroyed in an airstrike near Mosul.
The attack took place last Tuesday (7 March).
