Concerns Raised Over Human Rights Abuses In Mosul Following 'Execution Video'

Iraqi Soldiers

The Iraqi government says it's investigating a video which appears to show government forces in Mosul carrying out execution-style killings of suspected Islamic State militants.

Footage has emerged showing seemingly uniform-clad men throwing an unarmed man off a cliff, and later shooting at his motionless body.

This comes following concerns raised by various human rights groups regarding reports of torture and executions taking place in the city of Mosul.

The group Human Rights Watch has previously published allegations based upon witness testimonials, stating that they had seen Iraqi forces beat unarmed men fleeing Mosul, the BBC reports.

The group has also said that Iraqi forces are detaining and holding thousands of men and boys without charge in order to carry out screenings for ‘IS affiliation’.

Yesterday, the group reported that the families of alleged IS militants had been detained in a camp east of Mosul, for "psychological and ideological rehabilitation".
