Cyprus Safety Challenge To Combat Driving Deaths
Military personnel and their families at RAF Akrotiri have been tackling a series of tough driving tests in a bid to improve safety on the roads.

Last year a dozen servicemen were killed in road traffic accidents in the UK and overseas.

RAF driving instructor, Corporal Steve Wood said people who have become familiar with their own vehicles could become complacent.
“The majority of incidents that we have were service vehicles”

One of the toughest challenges involved driving a vehicle while wearing a pair of special goggles.
“It’s giving you an insight into someone under the influence of alcohol”

The final test was an emergency stop to alert drivers to the dangers of driving while holding a mobile phone.

The driving challenge took place in a car park inside RAF Akrotiri during the annual road safety week.
