The MV Boudicca, carrying 225 veterans back from D-Day commemorations in France, was diverted due to bad weather.

The ship was meant to dock in Portsmouth for a homecoming party and fireworks.

However, Storm Miguel meant the ship ended up docking in Dover.

The Royal British Legion then made an appeal for people to come to Dover to greet the veterans as they arrived back in the UK.

The tweeted said:  "The D-Day veterans on board the MV Boudicca have been diverted from Portsmouth to Dover due to adverse weather conditions and will now arrive at 9pm this evening.

"Please come down to Dover to show your support and give our heroes the welcome home they deserve."

Some passengers left the ship on Saturday night but most veterans are believed to disembark on Sunday.
