Londoners have shared their shock and surprise after "deafening" US Air Force fighter jets flew over the north of the city on Wednesday morning.

Four F-15 fighters, stationed at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, were rehearsing for flypasts over two NFL fixtures at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium later this month.

People took to social media to share footage and their shock at seeing the jets roar above them.

A Twitter user said the jets looked "amazing", with others also discussing the "crazy loud" sound they made.

One person said: "Deafening, windows rattling, picture fell off the wall."

Another person tweeted: "So what's up with the fighter jets that just rattled the whole of North London? Was literally expecting them to end up in my house."

The aircraft, according to one user, "flew literally so so low right over my building".

The F-15s have a top speed of 1,875mph and are operated from RAF Lakenheath by 48th Fighter Wing – the US Air Force's only F-15 wing in Europe.

The jets will be conducting flypasts at the upcoming NFL American Football matches between Atlanta Falcons versus New York Jets on 10 October and Jacksonville Jaguars versus Miami Dolphins on 17 October.

Despite predominantly hosting football fixtures, the near 63,000-seater Tottenham Hotspur Stadium also holds NFL matches between teams from the US.
