Former Royal Navy Officer Killed After Thieves Run Him Down With His Own Car

A former Royal Navy officer has been killed by thieves who ran him over in his own car after he confronted them outside his home.
Michael Samwell, 35, died after going to stop his black Audi S3 being taken in the early hours of Sunday in Manchester.
Greater Manchester Police said Mr Samwell appeared to have been "run over by the vehicle, causing his injuries" as the thieves fled the scene in Cranbourne Road at 3am.
A murder investigation has been launched.
Mr Samwell went down to investigate a "loud bang" that woke him and his wife, police said.
He was found in the parking area behind his home with serious injuries and died a short time later in hospital.
Mr Samwell's car was found abandoned and badly damaged a short time later three miles away in Whitby Avenue in the Ladybarn area of the city.
Detective Superintendent Jon Chadwick told the Press Association:
"My thoughts go out to Michael's wife and his family, I cannot comprehend what they must be going through."
