Chief of Defence Staff Tony Radakin has hosted his French counterpart Chef d’État-Major des Armées (CEMA) General Thierry Burkhard to celebrate the UK-France military relationship.

The chiefs met and signed a letter of intent to drive forward the outcomes of the UK-France summit, which took place in March, and both nations agreed to promote security and stability in Europe, as well as to deepen economic ties.

After yesterday's signing of the letter, the military chiefs attended the Trooping the Colour ceremony which took place at Horseguards Parade to celebrate the King's Official Birthday.

After watching the ceremony, General Thierry Burkhard said he was "honoured" to be part of such a historic event.

He added that "it is very impressive and it is always inspiring for a nation to see that some of its members are prepared to sacrifice their lives for the common good."

The CDS and CEMA were joined by over 100 members of the UK French-Military network for the ceremonial event.

Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, said it was a "privilege" to attend the King's birthday parade alongside the CEMA and all of his supporting military chiefs and our exchange officers.

He said, "having all of our most seniors officers united today, is highly symbolic and  demonstrates the strength and depth of the UK-France Military relationship, which is critical to the security of Europe and the World."
