How The Great Outdoors Has Helped Veterans Move Into Civilian Life

A programme that uses the Scottish wilderness to help veterans move from service to civilian life is being praised in a new report by the Forces in Mind Trust.

The Venture Trust’s Positive Futures initiative takes groups of veterans into the great outdoors for a seven-day course to help them overcome mental health issues.

The veterans live wild for the week and are helped by support staff to confront barriers, gain control of situations and set goals for development.

The findings of the report say Positive Futures has helped many of the veterans find accommodation, employment and training as well as improving the family lives of many suffering with mental health issues.
