Headley Court For Sale After 70 Years Of Military Rehabilitation
Military medical rehabilitation centre Headley Court has been put up for sale and may be turned into housing.
The Ministry of Defence announced back in 2014 that the site would be vacated and the centre moved to Stanford Hall, Nottinghamshire.
The current site, near Leatherhead, will be vacated by 2018 as part of a ÂŁ30 million project.
Headley Court has become well known in the world of military rehabilitation and has treated injured troops for around 70 years.
The facility began its life in the 1940s as a centre for injured RAF personnel returning from World War Two - you can find out more about its history below.
Headley Court will be sold by Knight Frank on behalf of the Headley Court Charity.
Its chairman, Air Vice Marshal Anthony J Stables, said:
"For almost 70 years the medical rehabilitation facility at Headley Court has cared for wounded, injured and sick members of the Armed Forces and it holds a very special place in many peoples' hearts."
It's not yet been disclosed how much the property will be put on sale for.
Knight Frank has described the estate as having "an attractive Grade II listed 19th century mansion at its epicentre."
It is on 82 acres (33 hectares) of land with offices, sporting facilities and a sports field, a rehabilitation complex and housing.
There are 133 bedrooms in staff accommodation and 56 semi-detached and detached residential properties.
