Homes Built To Address Housing Shortage For Veterans

More than 30 new homes have been built in Aldershot to address the lack of housing for former members of the Armed Forces.

Centenary Lodge on Evelyn Avenue has 34 purpose built homes aimed at veterans of different ages, their partners and families.

The new homes will be run by Stoll, a company which provides housing and support for veterans.

Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex visiting Centenary Lodge

Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex, who is Stoll’s Patron, formally opened the building today and met some residents.

Sergeant Sarah Green, Royal Army Medical Corps, will soon be leaving the army and moving into one of the homes with her son, Sebastian.

Sgt Green wanted to stay in the area because she wanted a continuity of care for Sebastian, who often goes to hospital because he suffers from chronic asthma. However, she found it tough to find any affordable housing.

She said: “When I was told that I’d got a Stoll property I was absolutely over the moon.

"It was a lot of stress taken away.”

Ed Tytherleigh, CEO of Stoll, said: “I’m delighted we’re opening Centenary Lodge today to help tackle the shortage of housing in Aldershot for former soldiers and other members of the Armed Forces.

“We are working to ensure that anyone who serves their country has an appropriate place to live – a place to call home where they can rebuild their lives.

“We are very grateful to all our funders for making this special place possible.”
