Members of Parliament from the Scottish National Party abstained from a vote today on whether there should be an early general election.

Deputy Leader Angus Robertson is the SNP's leader in the House of Commons, and was the party's spokesman for defence from 2001-2015.

Mr Robertson has been the Member of Parliament for Moray since 2001.

Military Overseas

The SNP deputy leader generally voted against the use of British military forces on overseas combat operations.

He has consistently been against military action against Islamic State. In December 2015, he voted against British airstrikes in Syria, and in September 2014 was against air strikes in Iraq intended to support Iraqi forces fighting IS.

In 2011 he was in favour of establishing a no-fly zone in Libya.

2003 Iraq War

Mr Robertson consistently voted against the 2003 war in Iraq.

Trident

He has almost always voted against the renewal of Britain's nuclear weapons system.

Military Covenant

Mr Robertson has consistently supported strengthening the military covenant.
