'I Wouldn't Have Voted For UKIP After Defence Policy' - Party Spokesman

The UKIP defence spokesman says "he would not have voted" for the party based on their defence policy.

Bill Etheridge said: "UKIP should be the party of the Armed Forces, yet as the Defence spokesman I had to completely distance myself from the policies written by Ms Evans which was frankly embarrassing.

"If I were a serving soldier I would not have voted for UKIP based on what we offered on defence."

In their 2017 General Election manifesto, UKIP pledged to increase the numbers of serving personnel by 20,000.

They also promised to spend a 'genuine' 2% on defence and to increase defence spending by £1 billion per year by the end of the parliament.

UKIP also pledged to retain Britain's independent nuclear deterrent and to improve social and health care for veterans.
