Iranian Embassy SAS Vet Sells Medals
A member of the SAS team that stormed the Iranian Embassy has sold his collection of souvenirs, including medals to help pay for his retirement.

Warrant Officer Ian White was one of the first commandos to enter the building and help end the six-day siege in May 1980.

Speaking in August to Forces News, Ian White said he didn't want his collection to disappear and hoped it would remain on view.
"If this ends up in a collection somewhere where someone can see it - then that's got to be good news"

The 62-year-old ex-commando, who served 25 years in the Army was looking to raise more than £30,000 to fund his retirement.

Speaking before the auction, Ned Cowell, of auctioneers Woolley and Wallis, said the Iranian Embassy siege was the seminal SAS action of their post-war years.

Ned Cowell also described the auction as a high point in his career and wished Ian White the very best in his retirement
"The medal market is the respect that medal collectors have for members of the armed forces"
